I Swear
Diagnosed with Tourette’s at age 15, John Davidson faced and overcame many hardships from adolescence and early adulthood as a result of what was a little known and entirely misunderstood condition in 1980’s Britain.
Set in Glasgow, I Swear is a funny, heartfelt and moving account of John’s experiences. Potty-mouthed humour and a heart-wrenching true story take centre stage here, with an unforgettable performance from Robert Aramayo. This is British social-realist cinema at it's best.
Our member of staff Annie, attended a preview screening and this is what she had to say:
"Watching I Swear at a recent preview screening in the cinema definitely boosted the viewing experience; laughing, crying and squirming at scenes and outrageously creative lines in unison.
Moments that crush us and bring a tear to our eye, are only met with laughter a few seconds later. You could say it’s a rollercoaster of emotions, something I think we are led to feel in a way of empathy for John. Robert Aramayo and Maxine Peake work so well together on screen; the natural dialogue and heartfelt relationships we see are an ongoing reminder that we are discovering a true life story. It feels like we are a fly on the wall, watching this story unfold for the very first time.
The Scottish landscapes, and timely soundtrack we consume upon this journey give us a real idea of the life that John Davidson led, and I feel privileged that this film offers an insight into such an inspirational story. Watch it with your loved ones, or by yourself - this film definitely won’t make you feel alone."DramaPT2H152025-10-10Robert Aramayo
